1. SIMPLE PRESENT TENSE

In this article, you will learn about the various uses and forms of simple tenses.

  • The simple present tense is used to indicate habitual action.
  • Example: Kareena goes for a swim every Sunday.
  • It is used to denote situations that are (nearly) permanent.
  • Example: She has two sons.
  • It is used to express general truths
  • Example: A true friend is a precious gift.
  • It is used in exclamatory sentences beginning with here, there.
  • Example: Here comes the real star of the show.
  • It is used to indicate a firm plan.
  • Example: Uncle Ganesh and Aunt Aishwarya leave for Germany next month.
  • It is used to give instructions.
  • Example: Cut the paneer in cubes.
  • It is used in radio and television commentaries and dramatic narratives.
  • Example: All the participants line up on the stage for receiving the certificates.

2.SIMPLE PAST TENSE

  • The simple past tense is used to denote actions and events that occurred in the past and are now completed or over.
  • Examples:
  • We enjoyed the show last week. (used for a past action whose time is known)
  • When did you buy this saree? ( when the speaker wants to know the time of the past action)
  • The simple past tense is also used for past actions done on a regular basis.
  • Example: The four friends played basketball together every evening.

3. SIMPLE FUTURE TENSE

  • The simple present tense is used to denote an action that we believe will happen in the future.
  • Examples:
  • Garima will learn swimming.
  • We shall go Christmas shopping.
  • The simple future tense is also used to indicate a promise or an offer.
  • Examples:
  • Sara will help Aradhya.
  • Shall I carry these notebooks for you?
